Senate races in Montana, Arizona and Florida too close to call

Early Wednesday morning, three U.S. Senate races — in Montana, Arizona and Florida — were still too close to call.

In Montana, the contest between Democratic incumbent Jon Tester and Republican Matt Rosendale was separated by a margin of roughly 1.7 percent. Rosendale holds a lead of 6,082 votes out of more than 355,000 cast. Roughly a third of precincts remain to be counted.

Republican Martha McSally leads Democrat Kyrsten Sinema by 17,240 votes in the race for Sen. Jeff Flake’s seat in Arizona. With more than 1.6 million cast, the margin is roughly 1 percent as of Wednesday morning. Roughly 75 percent of votes in Arizona remain to be counted after Election Day.

With all Florida precincts reporting as of 3:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Republican Rick Scott holds a lead of 38,717 votes out of more than 8 million cast over Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson. The current margin is less than one half of 1 percent. Under state law in Florida, a recount is mandatory if the winning candidate’s margin is less than 0.5 percentage points.
